Utica, NY (04/15/2015) - Utica College will host its first annual Relay For Life beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 17 and continuing until 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 18. It will be held in UC’s Harold T. Clarke Jr. Athletic Center and all proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.UC’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer (CAC), just established as a club last October, is now part of a nationwide collaboration of students working with the American Cancer Society to help finish the fight against cancer. The club not only works to raise funds, but also to raise awareness, advocate and educate about cancer. As a brand new organization, club members have already recruited nearly 30 Relay For Life teams, consisting of more than 200 participants, and have raised more than $12,500.
Cancer has touched the lives of many people on the UC campus. Relay For Life Chair and UC senior Gerald Testa says, “Relay For Life gives me a chance to honor my grandfather and many others who either are battling or have battled cancer.” Olivia Deck, club president, adds, “My goal is for no one to ever again have to hear the words, ‘you have cancer.’ I relay for you.”
The UC community is invited and encouraged to attend UC’s first-ever Relay For Life. Registration is from 4 to 11:30 p.m. For more information on this event, contact Testa at gdtesta@utica.edu. To join the fight or make a donation, visit relayforlife.org/uticacollegeNY.
