Ethics Talk to Explore Discrimination, Implicit Bias


UC's Applied Ethics Institute Hosts Philosophy Professor

Utica, NY (02/18/2015) - The Applied Ethics Institute at Utica College will host Yolonda Wilson, an assistant professor of Philosophy at Howard University, on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. Her presentation, “Second-Order Discrimination and Implicit Bias,” will be held in the Donahue Auditorium in the Gordon Science Center. 

Wilson earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She went on to earn her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research interests include bioethics, feminist theory and race theory.

Her talk will center around her theories on racial bias in relation to police/citizen interaction as well as résumé evaluation. She will illustrate how these two diverse topics have underlying similarities.
