Utica, NY (02/01/2015) - The Utica College colony of Alpha Chi Rho will brave the elements and camp behind Strebel Student Center from Sunday, Feb. 1 to Sunday, Feb. 8 to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

Brothers of the fraternity will “man” the campsite for the entire week and host daily events to raise awareness about cancer. Each day will be dedicated to fighting a different kind of cancer.

All donations received will be donated to the Central New York chapter of the American Cancer Society. Last year’s Deep Freeze raised over $4,000. Alpha Chi Rho is determined to increase that amount to $5,000 during this year’s event.

Students, faculty, staff and community members are encouraged to visit the campsite throughout the week. Brothers will host games, present education information, make s’mores, and accept donations to help support the fight to end cancer.

“Most families have been affected in some way by cancer, so we have a strong passion collectively to see this year’s Deep Freeze be successful,” said Utica College Senior and Alpha Chi Rho brother Alexander Hodkinson, “ Some might say that tenting outside for a week in the winter is foolish, but for my brothers and I, it’s the least that we can do for those fighting cancer.”

Those interested in making a donation are encouraged to stoop by the campsite or donate online at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/?team_id=1763396&pg=team&fr_id=69141.
