Slife New Dean of Health Professions, Education

Retired Army Colonel, Scientist, Professor

Utica, NY (07/01/2014) - Dr. Judith Kirkpatrick, Utica College provost and vice president for academic affairs, appointed retired United States Army Colonel Dr. Harry F. Slife Jr. as dean of the School of Health Professions and Education.

Slife served 30 years of active duty in both the Chemical Corps and Medical Service Corp. Formerly senior program manager for General Dynamics Information Technology, where he was responsible for management, business development and strategic planning in the area of medical research and research support services, Slife was also an adjunct professor of chemistry and physics at Hood College in Maryland.

Slife holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, a master’s degree from the University of Maryland and a bachelor’s degree from Youngstown State University.

The author or co-author of a number of professional journals and papers, Slife was honored for his lifelong commitment to learning with the Army Medical Department Long-Term Civilian Education Doctor of Philosophy, Biochemistry; and the Army Medical Department Long-Term Civilian Education Mater of Science from the University of Maryland.

He holds accreditation from the American Association of Clinical Pathologists as a medical technologist, as well as memberships in the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Sigma Xi.

“We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Slife to Utica College.  He brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that will take this already outstanding school to even greater prominence. We know that that the local community will enjoy their interactions with Dean Slife, as well,” Kirkpatrick said.

The School of Health Professions and Education is home to undergraduate health-related programs in nursing, psychology-child life, therapeutic recreation and health studies, with masters programs in occupational therapy (both traditional and in a weekend format), health care administration, and two doctor of physical therapy programs. A minor and certificate program in gerontology and undergraduate and graduate programs in teacher education are also housed in this school.
