History Students Present Symposium

15th Annual Presentation

Utica, NY (05/01/2014) - History majors have been hard at work these past two semesters researching and putting together information to present at the 15th Annual History Project Symposium at Utica College.

The public is invited to hear the results of that research on Saturday, May 3 at 9:30 a.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall, on the Utica College campus.

The History Project Symposium is a culmination of the history major’s two-semester research course that looks into the history of the Utica area.  The theme of this year’s symposium is “The Roaring ‘20s: A Decade of Change.”

There will be three sessions, with three students presenting during each session. Nicole Brockway, Garry Farquhar and John Verra will present “The Underside of Society: Criminality and Masked Identities in Central New York.”

The second session, “Of Radicals and Roads: Labor Movements and Economic Stimuli in the Mohawk Valley,” will be presented by Joseph Giametta, Tabitha Cieniewicz and Ralph Vacca.

The last session of the symposium is “It’s All About Image: Advertising, Fashion, and National Identity in Central New York.” The three students presenting their research are Alaina LaMarco, Laura Haggerty and Mariah Russell.

The history major at Utica College offers one of the broadest and most flexible liberal arts fields at UC.  History prepares students for fields in education, government service, historical and museum studies, public administration, law and other career options.

UC also has a student-run history club, which is open to all students with an interest in history.

This event is free and open to the public.
