UC Exhibits Landscape Works by New York Artists
Featuring Gottlieb, Weinstein and Beer

Utica, NY (02/27/2014) - Utica College’s Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery will showcase the works of three New York artists in the exhibit, “The Landscape Revisited: Featuring Sandra Gottlieb, Martin Weinstein and Jonathan Beer” from March 3 to May 2. An opening reception will be held on March 3 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.The three artists, whose works are each distinct and individual, are collected into one exhibit to represent and examine how memory works in conjunction with both real and imagined images and feelings.
Gottlieb, who is from Brooklyn, has studied various art disciplines such as photography, dance, interior design and acting. In her collection of photography, she uses black and white inkjet prints of photographs taken of the Atlantic Ocean and sky. All of the photographs were captured from the same third floor window in Rockway Beach in Queens and remain unaltered, natural and not cropped.
Weinstein’s technique was developed by his desire to paint both abstract and realistic pieces. By painting on three to five transparent, acrylic sheets, he is able to layer several elements of a piece to create a complex and unique illusion. Weinstein’s collection was inspired by the landscapes of the Hudson Valley.
Beer - a painter, sculptor and writer - creates real and mythical landscape images by mixing architectural structures, imagination and memory images.
The Barrett Art Gallery, located on the lower level of Gannett Library, will be open Monday through Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. The gallery is free and open to the public.
