Luncheon Celebrates Women of Character, Courage, Commitment

Utica, NY (03/03/2014) - The K. Della Ferguson Womyn’s Resource Center at Utica College will host its annual In Celebration of Women Luncheon, themed “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage and Commitment” on Monday, March 10 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the college’s Library Concourse.

Speaker Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner, founding director of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation, will discuss her “Girl Ambassadors for Human Rights” program, which equips young women to visit the United Nations to attend session of the Commission of the Status of Women.

Wagner will also speak on the untold story of Gage, the mother-in-law of L. Frank Baum who wrote the classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and other Oz tales. Gage was influential during the Civil War when she opened her Fayetteville home as a station on the Underground Railroad.

Tickets to the luncheon are $10 for the general public and free for UC students. To participate in only the presentation, admission is free. The Library Concourse is located on the lower level of the Frank E. Gannett Memorial Library.
