UC Prof Named One of Best in his Field
Crist Named to "Top Forensic Science Professors" List

Utica, NY (12/09/2013) - Dr. Thomas Crist, professor of physical therapy at Utica College, was named a “Top Forensic Science Professor” by ForensicsCollege.com.Crist earned this honor for his efforts both inside and outside the classroom. Co-founder of the American Academy of Forensic Science’s Young Forensic Scientists Forum, Crist also served as forensic anthropologist for the Philadelphia Medical Examiners Office and helped identify victims from the 9-11 World Trade Center attack.
He has directed more than 20 historical cemetery excavations throughout the United States, including Revolutionary War burials at Washington Square, the first Philadelphia Almshouse Burial Ground and the Tenth Street First African Baptist Church Cemetery in Philadelphia.
Crist’s excavations were featured twice on the Discovery Health Channel series Skeleton Stories.
Crist is the author of more than 100 professional publications and cultural resources reports including topics in forensic anthropology; African-American bioarchaeology; paleopathology and educational outreach efforts especially among minority descendant communities.
Crist earned his Ph.D. in biological anthropology from Temple University and holds a master’s degree in Anthropology/Public Service Archaeology from the University of South Carolina.
Crist started teaching at Utica College in 2001 and directs a forensic anthropology field trip to Albania, Greece and Romania every year from the end of May to the middle of June. In 2012, he received the Harold T. Clark Award for excellence in scholarship and professional accomplishments.
