Scientist to Discuss Intracellular Research

Lecture Part of Asa Gray Speaker Series

Utica, NY (11/13/2013) - Matthew Betzenhauser, research scientist at Masonic Medical Research Laboratory, will give his lecture, “Regulation of Intracellular Ca2+ Release Channels in Physiology and Disease,” as a part of Utica College’s Fall 2013 Asa Gray Series.

Betzenhauser will explain how a regulated rise in intracellular Ca2+ represents a universal signal utilized by cells to control a wide range of physiological processes. He will discuss his research that aims to understand the molecular bases and physiological consequences of Inositol trisphosphate receptors (IP3R) and Ryanodine receptors (RyR) regulation, as well as how cardiovascular diseases and aging disrupt these channels.

The lecture will take place at 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18 in the Donahue Auditorium located in UC’s Gordon Science Center. A reception will take place outside room 106 in Gordon immediately following the lecture. It is free and open to the public.
