Utica, NY (04/03/2013) - It’s often been said that although painful, burying parents is an expected part of the circle of life. But one should never have to bury a child.Kris Munsch has been there. The author, former high school woodworking teacher and bereaved parent will visit a local support group for grieving parents. The Stittville United Methodist Church will be the site of this special program on Saturday, April 27 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Munsch will, in memory of children and deceased loved ones, build a birdhouse and offer his insight into transforming lives after loss and life transitions, using the birdhouse as a metaphor. Those who are grieving are asked write their thoughts on pieces of plywood. The wood – and the thoughts – are rebuilt into something useful and meaningful.
Founder of The Birdhouse Project (www.thebirdhouseproject.com), Munsch lost his 16-year-old son Blake in a tragic car accident in 2005. In honor of his son, he traveled the lower 48 states, living out of his vehicle and teaching the metaphor of the birdhouse as a conduit for self-discovery.
“Kris is a truly inspirational human being, whose life-changing message will benefit all who have experienced loss of any kind,” said Dave Roberts, chapter leader, adjunct professor of psychology at Utica College, author and bereaved parent.
This program is free and open to the public. To RSVP and for further information, please contact the organization at 315-736-8684 or e-mail tcfmohawkvalley@gmail.com. In the event of rain, the program will be held inside.
