UC to Host "In Celebration Of Women" Luncheon


Dr. Melissa Fierke to Speak on (Role) Modeling

UC hosts "In Celebration Of Women" luncheon where Dr. Melissa Fierke, assistant professor of SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, will speak on modeling.

Utica, NY (02/22/2013) - Utica College will kick off “Womyn's Herstory Month 2013” on Tuesday, March 5 with its annual "In Celebration of Women” luncheon. Dr. Melissa Fierke, assistant professor at SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, will speak on "Aspiring to be an Intentional Model: Mother, Scientist, Advisor and Teacher."

The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Library Concourse. The public is invited; the cost is $10 per person.

In January 2009, Fierke took part in a panel presentation on the challenges of balancing work and family. The presentation was sponsored by Women in Science and Engineering and the ESF Women’s Caucus. Panel members gave a brief presentation about their research, challenges they have experienced maintaining a work and personal life, and strategies they have used to find balance between them. As the keynote speaker at the luncheon, Fierke will further discuss current challenges for women in the sciences and the importance of women serving as mentors and role models.

Utica College’s Womyn’s Herstory Month activities are sponsored by the Womyn’s Resource Center. In addition to the "In Celebration of Women Luncheon," other events commemorating Womyn’s Herstory Month include:
