Utica College to Host "Taste of The Arts" Showcase

Chance to Try S'mores Spaghetti; Hear, See Student Talent

Utica, NY (04/15/2013) - The Utica College Department of Performing and Fine Arts and the School of Arts and Sciences will host “A Taste of The Arts” on Wednesday, April 17 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Strebel Student Lounge and Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

The program will showcase student art work from the 2012-13 academic year, including visual art work, poetry, theatre and music. Works from Professor Steven Specht’s collage class will be showcased as well. There will be sampling available of various cultural cuisines represented at Utica College and in the local community such as tomato pie, half moon cookies, pierogies and chicken riggies.

Utica College’s Chemistry Department will create foods for sampling using molecular gastronomy. Special dishes include S’mores Spaghetti in which students will turn everyone’s favorite campfire dessert into a weekday meal of noodles. Students will offer carbonated fizzy fruit, in which fruit will be transformed into a soda-like experience. Reversible shrimp sushi in which the inside of the sushi roll becomes the outside, and liquid nitrogen ice cream will also be offered.

Hawaiian specialties will be provided by the Utica College Arts Club. Dishes such as spam musibis, sticky white rice, seaweed and spam, Japanese rice crackers, and ginger snaps will be available for sampling.

Other Utica College student groups including Open Moments, the Utica College Choir, the Utica College String Ensemble and the Utica College band will be performing at the event. Vogel Poetry Winners, Jennifer Strife, Ashley Goguen, acoustic guitarist and vocalist and will also be perform at the event.
