Utica, NY (06/05/2012) - Lia Putkaradze, a native of the country of Georgia and a former foreign exchange student at Utica College, was selected as State Alumni Member for the month of June by the U.S. Department of State.

Her selection was prompted by her dedication to creating community service projects for Georgian youth.

Putkaradze is an alumna of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ (ECA) Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD). Her participation in the program led her to Utica College in 2009.

While attending UC, Putkaradze studied corporate social responsibility (CSR), a holistic business approach that encourages companies to act in ways that positively impact not only their bottom line, but also their consumers, employees, and communities. As a result of the knowledge gained at UC, she has become one of Georgia’s first CSR professionals. Currently, she works with Ardza, a division of Georgia’s well-known Alliance Group Holding Company, to draft and execute CSR policies.

Putkaradze credits the UGRAD program with her achievements. “The program as well as my exchange experience has helped me to become more confident in my abilities,” said Putkaradze. “I am determined to make positive changes in my community and country.”

Outside of work, Putkaradze helps to create extracurricular activities for youth in her home city of Batumi. She coordinates community service projects to motivate and mobilize youth and educate them on the importance of community service.
Also, Putkaradze works with fellow exchange alumni partners and foreign nationals in Georgia to develop organizations that can independently execute youth programs in Batumi and throughout the Caucus region, thus ensuring the sustainability of these opportunities.
