Utica College Executive Lecture Series to Feature Louis Tehan '74

Upstate Cerebral Palsy CEO to Discuss Non-Profits

Louis Tehan, president and chief executive officer of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, will speak at Utica College’s Executive Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Economic Crime, Justice Studies and Cybersecurity building’s Carbone Family Auditorium.

Tehan’s lecture, “The business of non-profit,” will discuss how non-profit organizations work and how Tehan manages, monitors and expands the services of his organization.

For 30 years, Tehan has led the organization that provides services to individuals with special needs and their families, including life-enriching programs to more than 15,000 infants, children, and adults throughout Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis, and Madison counties and beyond.

A native of Utica and a 1974 graduate of Utica College, Tehan is very active in the community. He currently serves on the board of directors for Adirondack Bank, Camp Ronald McDonald for special children, the Msgr. Denti Foundation and the Yahnundasis Country Club.

Along with his community involvement, Tehan has previously held three governor appointments, including the New York State Mental Health Services Council, the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Restraint and Crisis Intervention Committee and the New York State Advisory Council on Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. Currently, he sits on the New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council Codes and Regulations Committee, the Major Medical Equipment and Appropriateness Review Committee and Project Review Committee.

During his tenure with Upstate Cerebral Palsy, Tehan has received numerous awards and honors including Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce Not-For-Profit of the Year, Empire State Advantage Governor's Award for Excellence in the Workplace, New York State Association of Community and Residential Agencies Best of the Best Award, and the local BPW Employer of the Year Award.

The event is sponsored by the business and economics department of Utica College and is free and open to the public.
