Utica, NY (09/08/2011) - Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of one of the darkest days in the history of the United States.

In order to commemorate this day, Utica College has planned several events to pay tribute to the victims of the 9/11 tragedies.

On the evening of Saturday, Sept. 10, there will be a moment of silence prior to the start of the college’s home football game.

On Sunday, Sept. 11, the antique bell atop Bell Hall will toll on the Utica College campus at 8:46 a.m., when the attacks began and the first plane hit the World Trade Center towers, and again at 10:28 a.m., when the North Tower of the World Trade Center collapsed.

Also, members of the Utica College community can come together in the Ellen Knower Clarke Lounge in Strebel Student Center to view an audiovisual presentation including images, quotes, and music commemorating the events of 9/11 and remembering those lost.

At 8:46 a.m., candles will be lit and the presentation will begin. A book of names will also be available and open for anyone present to read through. The presentation will run throughout the day, ending at 4:30 p.m.

Father Paul Drobin will celebrate mass at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in the Newman Center. Those masses will be held in memory of all who died on 9/11 and those lost in the days, months, and years thereafter. While these will be Catholic masses, anyone who would find comfort in attending are welcome regardless of the faith tradition they practice.

Throughout the day, a number of Student Affairs staff members will be on campus and available for those needing support.
