Utica, NY (06/30/2011) - Utica College will host three summer orientation sessions for incoming freshmen students July 11-16.

The freshman orientation is for students who are enrolling at Utica College in the fall and have completed less than 19 college credits.

“This orientation is intended to help incoming freshmen students get acclimated to Utica College and the college environment in general,” said Courtney Witherspoon, interim coordinator of orientation.

Students attending the orientation will learn about the academic aspects of Utica College from both faculty and staff, as well as meeting with deans of the various academic departments.

Also, the orientation provides an excellent opportunity for these students to explore the recreational side of the college.
Students will have the chance to meet other incoming freshmen through a variety of fun activities, such as a barbeque on the lawn behind Strebel Student Center, pizza and wings in Strebel, and a dance under the stars.

The orientation will be conducted by members of the office of student success, including Richard Racioppa, director for student success and Steve Pattarini, dean of student success and Witherspoon of Academic Affairs. Utica College faculty and staff will be present as well to provide information and answer any questions students and parents may have.

Each orientation lasts two days, including an overnight stay for students on day one.Students will be housed in residence halls and parents are encouraged to book lodging locally.

Each session begins at 9 a.m. in North Hall.

First-year students can register for the orientation online at www.utica.edu/orientation.

For more information regarding freshman orientation, contact Courtney Witherspoon in the Academic Support Services Office at 792-3032 or orientation@utica.edu.
