Utica, NY (05/20/2011) - Students looking to get ahead in school during the summer months can take classes during Utica College’s second summer session beginning Monday, May 23 and continue until Thursday, June 30.

Students taking summer classes at UC will have the chance to develop their professional skills, earn credit toward their degree and improve performance in key academic areas. UC offers a full selection of courses in a broad range of disciplines with options for both on-campus and online classes. Credit from these classes can be applied toward earning a degree at UC or almost any institution of higher learning in the country.

General education core classes as well as major and minor related classes will be offered during this session. Undergraduate summer classes include: introduction to mass communication, public administration, intercultural communication and human genetics.

Graduate level summer classes include: methods and curriculum: pervasive disabilities, ancient cities, and practical teaching methodologies.

Elizabeth Warfel, visiting instructor of public relations, is teaching introduction to mass communication as an online course during the second summer session and says there are many benefits to taking summer courses at Utica College.

“Some students might benefit from taking a challenging class during the summer so they can focus on just that class,” Warfel said. “Other students might find the summer is a great time for taking a fun course, or a course not associated with their major. It's a nice opportunity for students to catch up if they are behind in credits or get ahead if they'd like to wrap up their degree in less than four years.”
