Co-Founder of Womyn's Resource Center Brings "Herstories" to UC

Luncheon kicks off National Women's History Month

Utica, NY (02/17/2011) - Utica College’s Womyn’s Resource Center will observe the beginning of National Women’s History Month with its annual “In Celebration of Women” luncheon in the Library Concourse Monday, Feb. 28 from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Traci Fordham will give the keynote address titled “Herstories and Everyday Activism.” Fordham co-founded the Womyn’s Resource Center with Alane Varga, associate dean of students, and the late Della Ferguson, professor of psychology and former dean of the school of health professions and education. Fordham will give the keynote address titled “Herstories and Everyday Activism.” The event coincides with the Womyn’s Resource Center’s “Womyn’s Herstory Month” and the national theme “Our History is Our Strength.”

Fordham is an associate professor of communication studies and the coordinator of the Gender and Sexuality Studies program at St. Lawrence University. She earned a doctorate in social sciences and intercultural communication and a graduate certificate in women’s studies from Syracuse University in 2002. In 1987, Fordham was an adjunct instructor of communication arts and sociology at Utica College and also served in several positions in student services and credit programs until 1996.

The event is open to the public. Attendees of the luncheon need to register with the Office of Students Affairs by Wednesday, Feb. 23. The cost for the luncheon is $10; checks should be made payable to the Womyn’s Resource Center, and payment should be included with the registration. Student attendance has been underwritten but they are still asked to register. There is no cost for those who wish to attend the presentation, but not the luncheon. Fordham’s remarks are planned to start shortly after 1 p.m.
