Utica, NY (10/06/2010) - Film@ UC will dive into “The Cove” to expose the underwater secrets in Taiji, Japan.

The film depicts the annual slaughter of more than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises and how their mercury-contaminated meat is used and sold. It goes deep into the secrets of the multi-billion dollar dolphin entertainment industry while educating viewers of the consequences of dolphin hunting.

“The Cove” is an aggressive mix of investigative reporting, eco-adventure and striking imagery that aims to create worldwide awareness of the issue and pressure those in power to act.

The 2009 documentary is directed by Louie Psihoyos and produced by Paula DuPre Pesmen and Fisher Stevens.

“The Cove” will be shown on Thursday Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall, Utica College. The screening is free and open to the public.
