Award-Winning Poet Kicks Off Jackson Lunch Hour Series

Popular lunch hour series returns for fall semester

Utica, NY (09/03/2010) - Literature and music lovers alike will rejoice on Wednesday (Sept. 8) as the Professor Harry F. and Mary Ruth Jackson Lunch Hour Series at Utica College returns for its 2010 fall season. Award-winning poet and author Dan Bogen will kick off the series in Macfarlane Auditorium, Deperno Hall at 12:30 p.m.

Bogen, a professor of English at the University of Cincinnati, is the author of three books of poetry from Wesleyan University Press, After the Splendid Display (1986), The Known World (1997) and Luster (2003), and Ohio University Press published his critical book, A Necessary Order: Theodore Roethke and the Writing Process, in 1991. Along with his poetry, Bogen has been active as a reviewer and translator, and has collaborated with composers from the U.S. and abroad. Awards for his work include the University of Cincinnati’s Rieveschl Award for Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Work, The Discovery/The Nation Award, the Emily Dickinson Award of the Poetry Society of America, a Fulbright Senior Lectureship in Spain, and fellowships from the Camargo Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Jackson Lunch Hour Series, instituted in 1979, presents a series of musical and literary programs each semester. All performances are free of charge and are open to students, faculty, staff, and the public. Sponsored by the Utica College Social Cultural Committee, programs begin at 12:30 p.m. and are held in the Library Concourse (musical performances) or in Macfarlane Auditorium, Deperno Hall (literary readings).

Literary programs are made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
