UC Promotes Online Offerings at Annual Fraud Conference

Programs Perfect Fit for Fraud Examiners, Economic Crime Experts

Utica, NY (07/22/2010) - Representatives of Utica College will be on hand to discuss the latest research and trends in the education and training of economic crime fighters at the 21st annual ACFE Fraud Conference and Exhibition at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, July 25-30, in Washington, D.C.

Available at the Utica College booth (#201) in the Conference Exhibit Hall will be information about Utica College’s suite of online undergraduate and graduate degree programs related to economic crime. The college is one of the few schools in the nation to offer online bachelor’s and master’s degrees tailored specifically to economic crime, identity theft, cybersecurity and fraud management. These academic resources are critical to both public and private efforts to stem the tide of identity theft, fraud, and other economic crimes.

Utica College, a pioneer in economic crime education, is home to both the Economic Crime Institute (ECI) and the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP).

“The most effective weapon against economic crime is an educated mind trained in the use of the latest technology and techniques to detect and fight this expanding threat to our global economic security,” said George E. Curtis, J.D., executive director of the Economic Crime Institute and professor of Criminal Justice studies at Utica College. “Through our comprehensive roster of online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, Utica College is giving more men and women than ever before the opportunity to take leadership roles in this fight, while preparing them for a career of significance as they work in both the private and government sectors.”

Hosted by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the annual Fraud Conference and Exhibition brings together economic-crime investigators, anti-fraud specialists, auditors, lawyers, corporate leaders, government officials, and others related to the investigation and prosecution of economic crime to learn, exchange ideas, network, and create solutions. Keynote speakers at this year’s event include Neil Barofsky, Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP); Irving Picard, the lead court-appointed trustee in the recovery of assets lost in the Bernard Madoff scandal; and Justin Paperny, a reformed economic criminal who is volunteering his time to describe how he executed an illegal securities Ponzi scheme that ultimately led to his arrest, conviction, and jail sentence.

Representatives from Utica College will be available at booth #201 in the Conference Exhibit Hall from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 26, and from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27.
