Utica, NY (07/16/2010) - Utica College is welcoming hundreds of “green” students to its campus for summer orientation. While “green” usually makes us think of ecology, these students will learn about college living, and yes, recycling will be a part of it, and prepare for their transformation from “green” to Pioneer orange and blue. The first session of freshman orientation begins July 16 at 9 a.m., while session two begins on July 19 at 9 a.m. Both freshman sessions include an overnight stay and will be done by 2 p.m. the following day. Students will be housed in residence halls and parents are encouraged to book lodging locally.
A session specifically for transfer students was held on Thursday.
“Parents and students can expect to leave campus feeling confident about their choice of a college,” said Jarrett Kealey, coordinator of orientation. “They will also gain the tools needed to be successful come September.”
Kealey said that the largest group ever is expected over the five days.
“We’re trying to provide a more personal experience for both the parents and students this year by having orientation mentors assigned to individual groups,” Kealey said. “To better help students acclimate to Utica College, we are launching our first ever Welcome Weekend, which is a chance for first-year students to move-in earlier than usual, start to form important relationships, and acclimate themselves to college life.”
For more information about new student orientation, contact Kealey at orientation@utica.edu or go to http://www.utica.edu/student/development/orientation/.
Even though orientation is at capacity, prospective students can still apply for admission. For more information visit http://www.utica.edu/enrollment/admissions/ or contact the admissions office at (315) 792-3006.
