UC Education Students to be Inducted into International Honor Society

Utica, NY (04/29/2010) - A new cohort of Utica College students will become members of the international honor society in education, Kappa Delta Pi. Fifty-four students will be inducted into the prestigious society Saturday, May 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Stanley Center for the Arts on Genesee Street in Utica.This year’s cohort of students was selected based on their outstanding academic performance by members of the education faculty at UC and Kappa Delta Pi.
Utica College, the 693rd installed chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, offers a comprehensive suite of programs for those wishing to become teachers. The purpose of the Kappa Delta Pi Chapter is to promote excellence in and recognize outstanding contributions to education. Thomas Diana, Ph.D., assistant professor of education and the group’s advisor, said that the induction of this group represents their love of learning and commitment to the profession.
Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911 to recognize excellence in education. It invites membership to those who uphold the ideals of fidelity to humanity, science, service and toil. The organization encourages high personal standards, scholarship, distinction in achievement, and positive contributions to education. Today, there are more than 50,000 members in more than 500 university, college, public school, and alumni chapters. The society publishes three periodicals in education and sponsors conferences, workshops, and award programs each year, in addition to conducting a biennial convocation.
