Utica, NY (03/02/2010) - The Mohawk Valley Writing Project (MVWP) and Utica College will host several workshops for teachers and writers this spring as part of an ongoing attempt to increase quality education through improved writing. The first workshop, a “Saturday Special,” will take place on March 20 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will offer a choice of eight topics. Three five-day workshops will also be held the week of April 15-19: “Collaborative Practice for the Improvement of Student Writing,” “Academic and Cultural Understanding of the ESL Student” and “Because Writing Matters.”
The MVWP is an affiliate of the National Writing Project, a federally-funded professional development program for K-12 teachers across the country. Its goal is to inspire practicing teachers and develop a local network in which their insights, practices, and wisdom can be shared through in service projects. Writing Project Teacher Consultants can become leaders in their area by helping to build vital and productive literacy communities in their schools.
