UC Army ROTC Pioneer Detachment Holds Activation Ceremony

Utica, NY (02/17/2010) - Utica College held a formal ceremony today (Feb. 17) to recognize the official activation of the Pioneer Detachment of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC). During the ceremony, cadets unfurled the new unit guidon for the Pioneer Detachment, Stalwart Battaglion. The guidon is a symbol for UC’s ROTC detachment, which accompanies the cadets on all official military events.Leading the ceremony was Lieutenant Colonel Sue Hardwick, professor of military science at Syracuse University, along with First Sergeant Ken Alcorn and UC President Todd S. Hutton. President Hutton spoke of UC’s historic beginning as a campus serving veterans returning from war.
Utica College has 35 Army ROTC cadets, ranging from freshmen to seniors. Upon graduation, the cadets will have earned an Army rank of 2nd lieutenant.
