Cyber Security Enhancement Bill Could Benefit UC Programs, Students

Congressman Arcuri Speaks on Behalf of Bill, Points to UC Programs

Utica, NY (02/05/2010) - The House of Representatives passed the Cyber Security Enhancement Bill by an overwhelming margin yesterday, by a 422 to 5 vote.

U.S. Representative Michael Arcuri (NY-24) led debate on the House floor, highlighting contributions being made in education and research by Utica College and Rome Lab. If passed into law, HR 4061 could increase cyber security funding by some $500 million.

“We are grateful to Representative Michael Arcuri and his House colleagues for their work on behalf of the Cyber Security Enhancement bill,” said Todd S. Hutton, president of Utica College. “The passage of this bill signifies Congress’s recognition that there is an increasingly critical national security need. We are particularly excited, because as Congressman Arcuri affirmed in his remarks on the House floor, Utica College is well-positioned to help address this need through our highly successful academic programs, research initiatives and community partnerships.”

Utica College, a longtime leader in economic crime and criminal justice programs, offers a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity and information assurance.

The bill will now go to the Senate.
