RSI Awards Top Students for Outstanding Accomplishments

Raymond Simon Institute honors students of promise

Utica, NY (04/20/2009) - The Raymond Simon Institute (RSI) for Public Relations at Utica College honored its top students and an alumna at its annual recognition ceremony in early April. The Institute, named for Raymond Simon, professor emeritus of public relations and founder of the college’s PR program, is one of the first of its kind in the country.

At the ceremony, Sandra Beckwith was honored with the 2009 RSI Distinguished Public Relations Alumni Award. Beckwith, a 1976 graduate of the program, is the CEO and founder of Beckwith Communications, a PR firm located in Fairport, NY. A freelance writer for books, magazines, newsletters and various Web sites, she penned Why Can’t a Man Be More Like a Woman in 1995. An exploration of gender roles and differences, the book stirred a great deal of controversy, garnering national attention for the author.

Nicole Adamczyk ’10 (Sayville. NY) was awarded the Raymond Simon/RSI Scholarship for her excellent academic record, high quality participation in extracurricular activities associated with PR, and her promise for success in the field of public relations.

Jacqueline Klotzbach ’10 (Hilton, NY) received the RSI/Faculty Award for attaining the highest academic average in the PR/J program. She attained a near-perfect 3.99 grade point average. The award was established in honor of Raymond Simon’s 24 years as executive director of the RSI and his commitment to high academic standards.

Jeffrey Kassouf ’12 (New Paltz, NY) and Katie Prue ’10 (New Hartford, NY) were awarded the Eleanor and Matty Sokolow/RSI Writing Award for superior writing proficiency in PR/J classes.

Jeffrey Kinne ’10 (Sherrill, NY) received the Gary and Jeanne LaBella/RSI Transition Award, presented to an outstanding student who transferred to UC.

Rinae Olsen ’09 (Schenectady, NY) received the Rubin R. Teitelbaum/RSI Award for maintaining excellent academic standing while being involved in a variety of extracurricular activities.

Megan Fariello ’09 (New Hartford, NY) and Stephanie Ogozaly ’09 (Carbondale, PA) were awarded the Fred and Corinne Grates/RSI Achievement Award for their noteworthy improvement in their professional skills during their time at Utica College.

Samantha Madison ’10 (Lebanon, NH) and Joanna Robles ’09 (New Hartford, NY) were awarded the Owen Comora/RSI Tangerine Award given to staff members of the Tangerine who have contributed most to the success of the student-run newspaper in the past year.

Callan Bignoli ’09 (Johnson City, NY) received the Flaherty/RSI Award for demonstrating outstanding creativity.

Travis Olivera ’09 (Clinton, NY) was awarded the Ed Matesky/RSI Broadcasting Award given to a student who shows promise in the field of broadcasting.

Jennifer Stock ’09 (Clinton, NY) received the RSI/Student of Promise Award, which recognizes a student from the Mohawk Valley who shows exceptional promise for success in public relations or journalism.

Thomas Armitage ’09 (Barneveld, NY) and Jonathan Monfiletto ’09 (Morristown, NY) were honored with the George Jones/RSI Outstanding PR/J Student Award for the senior class. This award recognizes outstanding PR/J students in each class for demonstrated excellence in academics, research and writing.

Nicole Adamcyzk ’10 (Sayville, NY) was honored as the outstanding PR/J junior. Devorne Hormeku ’10 (Brooklyn, NY) was honored as the outstanding PR/J sophomore.
