Utica, NY (04/13/2009) - Despite the amazing advances in medicine, technology and pharmacology over the past century that have led to longer and healthier lives for Americans, no advancement thus far has made humans immortal. Facing end-of-life issues is a hard and sometimes grueling process when a family member or loved one faces the inevitable. Geriatricians and health professionals strive to educate their patients and their peers about the very sensitive yet necessary preparation required to deal with the death of a loved one or a patient.
UC will host a forum titled Whose Life is it, Anyway: A Discussion of End of Life Issues on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Concourse. The event is free and open to the public and refreshments will be served. The forum is sponsored by Utica College’s Gerontology Program, UC’s Student Gerontology Society, the State Society on Aging of New York’s Education Committee and the State Society on Aging of New York’s Student Committee.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Edward Bradley, a practicing geriatrician and internist and a founding member of the Institute of Applied Ethics at Utica College. He serves on the board of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. and is chairman of its Ethics Committee. He is also a member of the Ethics Committee for the Resource Center for Independent Living (RCIL). For more information about the forum, call (315) 792-3309.
