UC Gallery to Showcase Local Artists

CNY Watercolor Society Holds Juried Exhibition

Utica, NY (08/21/2008) - Utica College’s Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery will host the Central New York Watercolor Society’s 2008 juried exhibition featuring the best of area artists’ works. The show, which is free and open to the public, opens August 26 and runs through September 26. Selected works by both signature and associate members will be on display.

An artists’ reception is slated for September 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. This year’s reception will include a new twist -- a demonstration night. Eight local artists - Catherine Bennett, Polly Blunk, Bud Bolte, Drayton Jones, Kathy Kernan, Sandra Schick, Lorraine van Hatten and Angela Wilson - will demonstrate their techniques and styles, revealing some of the secrets that make their work so distinctive.

This year’s juror is local artist and educator Sandra DeVisser, an award-winning painter and printmaker, who teaches at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute of Art and SUNY Institute of Technology. DeVisser holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Albany and a master’s degree from Colgate University. She has exhibited in both solo and group shows throughout the local area and has lectured and critiqued groups of local artists.

The hours for the gallery, which is located in the Library Concourse on the UC campus, are Monday through Friday 1 to 5 p.m. and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m.
