Molly Crist Wins Prestigious National Award

Director of Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program recognizes Crist for innovative programming

Utica, NY (04/10/2008) - Molly Crist, assistant professor of physical therapy and director of the transitional doctor of physical therapy program at Utica College, was awarded the prestigious James Dunleavy Distinguished Service Award recently. Crist was honored by the acute care section of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) at its annual gathering in Nashville, Tenn.The award recognizes the innovative programming Crist developed that has helped elevate physical therapists’ role in the health care community. Crist chaired the group’s education committee for 10 years, coordinating relevant programs for PTs working in acute care settings. The Dunleavy award is national recognition of Crist’s outstanding service to, and demonstrated leadership in, advancing the interests and objectives of APTA’s Acute Care Section.
A graduate of Temple University where she earned her master’s and doctoral degrees, Crist joined Utica College in 2001. An author and researcher, she was instrumental in the process of developing the curriculum for UC’s Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. She and her husband, Thomas Crist, have been recognized for their anthropological work as well, having discovered the oldest autopsied skull in the New World at St. Croix Island, Maine.
