Expert in Labor, Economics to Speak at UC


"Why the Minimum Wage is a Good Idea"

Bruce Kaufman, author and professor, to speak on labor and economics

Utica, NY (04/07/2008) - Bruce Kaufman, Ph.D., a professor and author who specializes in integrating the fields of economics and management will speak Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m. in the Willard Conference Room, DePerno Hall, Utica College.

Kaufman’s speech, “Why the Minimum Wage is a Good Idea: Insights from Institutional Economics and Human Resource Management” will be followed by a reception at 3 p.m. in the Crisafulli Lounge.

Kaufman, a senior associate of the W.T. Beebe Institute of Personnel and Employment Relations, professor of economics at Georgia State University, and author of several books, specializes in labor economics, industrial relations, human resource management, and the history of economic thought. He has published numerous scholarly articles and has edited or written 21 books. Two of his most recent works include The Origin and Early Development of Corporate Industrial Relations Programs and The Economics of Labor Markets, 7th ed. (with Julie Hotchkiss). He is also co-editor of the annual research volume Advances in Industrial and Labor Relations, past-president of the University Council of Industrial Relations and Human Resources Programs, and co-chair of the Industrial Relations Theory Study Group of the International Industrial Relations Association.

Kaufman’s presentation is part of a series sponsored in part by the Credit Bureau of Utica Fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc.. The presentation is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
