Winners of UC Regional Science Fair Announced
30th Annual Event Presented by Pratt & Whitney- HMI Metal Powders, a United Technologies Company

Utica, NY (03/30/2008) -The ideas and experiments of the area’s budding young scientists were on display today at the 30th annual Utica College Regional Science Fair presented by Pratt & Whitney – HMI Metal Powders, a United Technologies Company.
The senior level grand champion of the fair is Jordan Graziadei of Clinton Central School for “Soil Testing for Lead with the ICP-OES.” Senior runner-up grand champion is Julian Bass-Krueger from Clinton Central School for “Does Tetris Make You Smarter?” The junior grand champion is Christina Renodin from Poland Central School for “Vegetation’s Affect on Soil Erosion.”
Graziadei will be offered a scholarship of two years at half tuition at Utica College, organizers said, among other prizes.
Winners in the senior division, physical science, are:
- Jordan Graziadei, Clinton Central School, first place;
- Andrew Bering, Clinton, second;
- Faith Rickard, Poland, third;
- Jana Farell, Clinton, fourth.
Winners in the senior division, natural sciences, are:
- Julian Bass-Krueger, Clinton, first;
- Tristan Bass-Krueger, Clinton, second;
- Emmett Potts, Clinton, third;
- Amanda Sharron, Clinton, fourth.
Winners in the senior division, math/computer science/engineering, are:
- Axel Kodat, Clinton, first;
- Deanna Zembrzuski, Poland, second;
- Joseph Stanton, Rome Catholic School, third.
Winners in the junior division, physical science, are:
- Sean Rickard, Poland, first;
- Sun-Ly Pierce and Esther Sumner, Clinton, second;
- Russell Arcuri, Donovan Middle School, third;
- Joshua Lewis and Patrick McHarris, Clinton.
Winners in the junior division, natural science, are:
- Christina Renodin, Poland, first;
- Peter Hagstrom and Nathan Hagstrom, Clinton, second;
- Matthew Hwang and James Rickards, Clinton, third.
Winners in the junior division, math/computer science/engineering, are:
- Nicholas Spudie, Clinton, first;
- Gabe Broomfield, Poland, second;
- Kyle Bojanek, Strough, third;
- Courtney Tabor, Poland, fourth.
The UC Regional Science Fair, featuring exhibits from students in grades seven through 12, is designed to stimulate an active interest in science and engineering while providing an educational experience and giving public recognition to talented students.
Nearly 60 judges from across scientific curricula and professions critiqued the exhibits.
