Rebovich to Head UC's CIMIP

Professor Brings Years of Experience to Position

Utica, NY (02/28/2008) - Donald Rebovich, Ph.D., associate professor and director of economic crime undergraduate programs, has been named acting executive director of the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection of Utica College (CIMIP). 

CIMIP of Utica College is a research collaborative dedicated to furthering a national research agenda on identity management, information sharing, and data protection, founded in June 2006.

Prior to joining UC in 2001, Rebovich, a native of Perth Amboy, NJ, served as research director for the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), as well as the American Prosecutors Research Institute. He has authored a number of books, including “Dangerous Ground: The World of Hazardous Waste Crime.” He is also the assistant editor of the Journal of Economic Crime Management. His background includes research in economic crime victimization, white-collar crime prosecution, and multi-jurisdictional task force development. He has served as advisor to the U.S. Department of Justice on tribal technology and information sharing, and on environmental crime control. 

“Don possesses a wealth of knowledge on identity theft; he is very highly regarded at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),” said Mike Kangior, senior policy analyst with the agency. “In addition to his research on crimes, perpetrators and victims, he is also an expert on the prevention of identity theft. This expertise is key to an agency like ours, with a mission to control and combat crime,” Kangior said. “We are looking forward to a great and longstanding relationship with CIMIP,” he said. 

Rebovich earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Jersey and master’s and doctorate degrees in criminal justice from Rutgers University. He resides in New Hartford, N.Y. 

One of the principle researchers for CIMIP, Rebovich has presented at a number of national conferences on identity management and information protection. Most recently, Rebovich co-authored a book on the effects of new technology on criminality, crime prevention, and the criminal justice system, “The New Technology of Crime, Law and Social Control.”
