Utica, NY (01/25/2008) - Todd S. Hutton, president of Utica College, has been elected to the board of directors of the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), an association of some 580 independent colleges and universities throughout the country. Hutton will serve a three-year term.
Hutton was inaugurated as the president of Utica College in 1998. Under his leadership, Utica College has increased enrollment to approximately 3,000 students, established a strategic planning process, begun offering graduate programs, and initiated major reform in campus governance and the general education program. The college has also undertaken its most ambitious capital campaign to date - Achieve: A New Dream, A New Era – which includes construction of a three-phase science and technology complex. The first phase is the recently completed F. Eugene Romano Hall, a state-of-the-art, 23,000-square foot health sciences facility. Subsequent phases include a facility now under construction that will house UC’s Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP) as well as programs in economic crime and justice studies, and a facility for the life sciences programs.
Hutton earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Davidson College, a master of education degree in school psychology/psychological foundations from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in education from Duke University.
Most recently, Hutton was appointed to the transition team of Utica mayor David Roefaro, in addition to serving on the board of directors of the Mohawk Valley Economic Development Growth Enterprises (EDGE) Corporation, the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce, the School and Business Alliance (SABA), the United Way of the Greater Utica Area, and Faxton/St. Luke's Healthcare. Hutton was appointed to represent Oneida County on the Central Upstate Regional Alliance, a 12-county, public-private economic development consortium that seeks to transform the regional economy. He has also served on the boards of the Central New York Community Arts Council and the Utica Symphony.
In the past he has served on both the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee of New York’s Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities; he was recently re-elected to the commission’s board.
