UC Dedicates Romano Hall, Kicks Off "Achieve" Campaign

$25 Million Campaign to Benefit Science, Tech, Scholarships, More

Utica, NY (09/27/2007) - Utica College will mark two milestones this Saturday (Sept. 29) as it dedicates F. Eugene Romano Hall and kicks off the public phase of the ‘Achieve: A New Dream, A New Era’ $25 million capital campaign.

The newly constructed Romano Hall is the first phase of the college’s science and technology complex. Providing state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories for students majoring in physical therapy, occupational therapy and nursing, as well as office space for faculty, the building is named for F. Eugene Romano, who is the college’s largest individual donor to date.

The campaign goal is $25 million, of which some $19.9 million has been raised in the private phase of the campaign.

The dedication of Romano Hall, which takes places at 5 p.m. Saturday, marks the completion of phase one. The second phase involves the construction of a facility that will house the Center for Identity Management and Information Protection (CIMIP), as well as programs in economic crime, cybersecurity and criminal justice. Construction is expected to begin soon and should be completed in fall 2008.

The third and final phase of the science and technology complex, which will be begin in two to three years, will be a new building to house the natural sciences.

In addition to the science and technology complex, campaign priorities include funds for scholarships, teaching and learning, and unrestricted annual giving.
The campaign will run through October 2010.

The College, located in central New York, approximately 90 miles west of Albany and 50 miles east of Syracuse, currently enrolls nearly 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students in 32 undergraduate majors, 26 minors, 13 master’s and two doctoral degree programs.
