PR Pro Gary Grates Returns to Alma Mater for Conference


Journalists, PR Practitioners, Communicators Invited to Event

A professional conference for journalists, public relations and communications professionals will be held at UC Sept. 28.

Utica, NY (09/21/2007) -

   A professional conference for journalists, public relations and communications professionals will be held at Utica College Friday. The keynote speaker will be Gary Grates, president and global managing director of Edelman Change and Employee Engagement firm. 
   Grates, a Frankfort native and graduate of Utica College and Syracuse University, will discuss the social media revolution. Former senior corporate communications executive at General Motors and former president of GCI Boxenbaum Grates, a strategic communication counseling firm, he has counseled a number of national and global corporations, including Caterpillar, Shell, Carrier, Novartis, Mobil, British Airways, Coca-Cola and Dell. A member of the board of trustees of Utica College, Grates also serves as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University, teaching a graduate course in strategic communication.
   Along with Grates, four other UC alumni will be discussing the new era in public relations and journalism. Speakers include: Susan Craig, media relations manager, Columbia Medical Center; Renee Gamela, staff reporter, Utica Observer-Dispatch; Dorree Gurdak, vice president/Cambridge, Weber Shandwick; and Richard Puff, director of public relations, University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center.
   The conference fee of $30 includes continental breakfast, lunch, and afternoon dessert. Registration can be completed online at http://www.utica.edu/instadvance/alumni/events/homecoming/2007/index.cfm. Conference registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
