Impicciatore to Head NYSTRA

Kirstin Impicciatore to take helm of N.Y. State Therapeutic Rec organization for second time

Utica, NY (06/06/2007) - Kirstin Impicciatore, assistant professor of therapeutic recreation at Utica College, was recently elected president of the New York State Therapeutic Recreation Association (NYSTRA), marking the second time she has been elected to the position.Impicciatore will serve as president-elect during 2007-2008, becoming president in 2008. In 1993, Impicciatore served as a member of the hospitality committee for the New York State Recreation and Parks Society Therapeutic Recreation Forum. A year later when NYSTRA formed, she quickly became involved. Then in 1999, she became a board member at large, and president in 2005.
Impicciatore earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation education from SUNY Cortland and a master’s degree in leadership and instruction for inclusive classrooms from Utica College. She began her career at UC in 1997 as an adjunct faculty member. In 2001, she became a full-time faculty member, teaching assessment and evaluation in therapeutic recreation; outdoor recreation; recreation and adventure activities; the history and philosophy of leisure; and recreation services and leadership.
Founded in 1994 by a group of dedicated, experienced therapeutic recreation professionals, NYSTRA supports and promotes the highest standards of therapeutic recreation practice.
