Utica, NY (04/19/2007) - This Thursday night (April 19) a candlelight vigil will be held at Utica College in remembrance of 32 students and faculty slain at Virginia Tech this week. At 9:30 p.m., students of Utica College will light their candles, observing 10 seconds of silence for every slain person.

Students of SUNYIT and Mohawk Valley Community College have been invited to attend. Residents of the Mohawk Valley are encouraged to be part of the vigil and give a show of support to the students of Virginia Tech and everyone affected by this tragedy.

Brothers of Chi Kappa Delta Fraternity will be distributing candles to Utica College students today and to SUNYIT and MVCC students on Thursday. Candles can also be obtained at the actual vigil.

Chi Kappa Delta Fraternity Inc. is a social organization located only at Utica College. Established in 1994, Chi Kappa Delta has since been involved with events in Utica over the past 13 years, from the Heart Run and Walk, to the Boilermaker, and even hockey games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. When tragedy occurs, Chi Kappa Delta helps every way it can. After the events of Hurricane Katrina, Chi Kappa Delta spearheaded a fundraiser to provide relief to Utica College students affected by the disaster, which led to the establishment of the Utica College emergency relief fund. It is Chi Kappa Delta’s honor to give people of the Mohawk Valley a chance to show their support for the students of Virginia Tech and pray that this senseless loss of life will never be allowed to happen again.
