Utica, NY (07/27/2006) - UTICA, N.Y. (July 27, 2006) – While parents are starting to think about their children going back to school, some teachers are thinking about going back too – as students.Utica College has created a new master’s degree in educational leadership and administration for individuals interested in leadership roles in schools, as well as two certificates of advanced study (CAS) in the areas of school building leader and school district leader.
The new master’s degree qualifies individuals for administrative positions, such as school principals and superintendents, in public school systems. The certificates of advanced study are certified by the New York State Department of Education.
"Utica College is responding to the needs of local school districts that are anticipating an impending shortage of administrators," said Dr. Steven Kalies, associate professor of education. The specialized coursework is designed for those who are already experienced teachers, focusing on administrative, organizational, leadership, and human resource issues.
Classes will be offered in the evening, beginning this fall.
