Utica, NY (05/16/2006) - Two Utica College students were recently inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the national honor society for communication studies. The induction ceremony took place in the Bell Hall conference room, with David Habbel, associate professor of communication arts, giving the keynote address.
This year’s inductees were juniors Nicole Lent, Waterville, and Kelli Vossler, Saranac Lake.
In order to be considered for induction, students must maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or better in communication arts courses. They must also have an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Potential members must be at least juniors and majoring in communication arts.
The Utica College chapter of Lambda Pi Eta was established in 2004. There are more than 400 chapters worldwide. The goals of Lambda Pi Eta are to recognize, foster, and reward outstanding scholastic achievement in communication studies, to stimulate interest in the field of communication, as well as to establish and maintain closer relationships between faculty and staff. Lambda Pi Eta also works to promote and encourage professional development among communication majors.
The communication arts program at Utica College is unique in that students study interpersonal communication while learning to communicate through the media. Students also take courses in journalism and theater.
