Utica, NY (05/15/2006) -Utica College held commencement ceremonies for graduating students May 14 at 11 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. A total of 429 students received their degrees, including 344 undergraduate and 85 graduate students.
The commencement program featured keynote speaker Mike Farrell, actor and social activist. Perhaps best known as B.J. Hunnicutt on the long-running television series “MASH,” Farrell has worked as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations and for CONCERN/America, an international refugee aid and development organization. An avid spokesperson on behalf of a number of social causes, Farrell has had a particular interest in human rights, which parallels Utica College’s longstanding commitment to human rights education.
Farrell was awarded an honorary degree, doctor of laws, at the commencement.
Farrell’s speech concluded a series of events keeping with the college’s campus theme for this academic year, “Dissent in a Free Society.”
