Utica, NY (09/03/2009) -      Utica College will soon host a record number of alumni for its annual Homecoming celebration. Class reunions, sports team reunions, exhibits and parties are just a few of the events and activities at this year’s celebration.
The festivities take place Sept. 11- 13 with alumni, current students, parents and friends of the college expected to attend. Everyone is welcome to join in on the celebration.
“This weekend has become something alumni, families and friends look forward to each year,” said Mark Kovacs, director of alumni and parent relations. “The turnout grows each year and so do the festivities. With nearly 7,500 alumni in the Mohawk Valley, we hope to, once again, have a great turnout this year, especially by all the local alumni.”
Some of the scheduled events for Friday include casino night, open mic night, the carnival under the stars and a performance by The Black Crowes with guests Truth & Salvage Co. at the F.X. Matt Brewery. Saturday’s events include reunions for various clubs and organizations, a pre-game party and BBQ, a performance by hypnotist Kevin Hurley, and fireworks followed by pub night. The Alumni Awards breakfast will take place on Sunday morning.
The Utica College football team will face Castleton State at 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano stadium and alumni games will take place throughout the weekend. Men’s lacrosse will take place Friday at 7 p.m. On Saturday will be men’s soccer at 9 a.m., baseball and softball at 10 a.m., and women’s lacrosse at 5:30 p.m.
Another highlight will be a chance to visit “Whimsicolor,” an exhibit by UC alum and retired surgeon Dr. Gordon Bashant in the Edith Langley Barrett Fine Art Gallery, on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
