Utica, NY (08/25/2009) - Utica College has announced that alumnus Mark Pilipczuk ’88 will give the convocation address at the 2009 ceremony Aug. 31 at 11 a.m. in the Clark Athletic Center.Pilipczuk graduated cum laude from UC with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and earned his master’s degree in marketing and product marketing management from Pace University in 1990. He is vice president of marketing services for Neustar, an innovative company that creates new, faster ways to integrate competing communication networks across the globe.
Pilipczuk, formerly with AOL and a leader in the marketing world, shares a relevant issue with the incoming freshmen: learning to adapt to an ever-changing world. In light of this, Pilipczuk will gear his speech toward UC’s campus theme for the 2009-2010 school year: Preparing for the New Normal. “I’d like to convey a few of my experiences from UC and in my professional life that have helped me prepare for today’s normal,” he said. “I’d like to help the class of 2013 find their new normal. I’m excited and honored about the opportunity to [them] particularly because this year’s theme is relevant for today’s students as they enter Utica College.”
Mark Kovacs, director of parent and alumni relations, expects Pilipczuk’s speech to hit home for many new students. “Mark Pilipczuk is a successful alumnus, and I think that students will be able to relate to him professionally and personally,” he said.
Pilipczuk has also worked for the national non-profit World Wildlife Fund. Proud of his alma mater, Pilipczuk has been a member of UC’s Board of Trustees since 2004 and was named vice chairperson in 2007, a position he still holds.
A reception will follow the ceremony in the Academic Quad, weather permitting.
