Utica, NY (02/04/2010) - World renowned political pollster and Utica native John Zogby will visit Utica College on Wednesday, Feb. 10, to give a presentation on “America’s First Globals and Their Impact on the 21st Century,” a term he coined to describe 18- to 29-year-olds and their outwardly accepting political viewpoints.

In his book, “The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream,” published by Random House last August, he provides an optimistic view of the American public opinion, based on years of research and surveys. Throughout his studies Zogby discovered that Americans still have reasons to be uplifted, even during a time in which they face job layoffs, poor health care, rising gas prices, and many other widespread challenges. Those reasons are largely based on a yearning for faith in humanity. “Americans want to live in a world with other people, not in a walled empire surrounded by enemies,” he said.

Zogby is the president and CEO of Zogby International, a polling firm he founded in 1984. Zogby International has been tracking public opinion for several decades in North America, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, and has become well known for using both live telephone operators and interactive internet polling systems. But most of Zogby’s national attention has come from his accuracy in United States Presidential election polls. In 1992 he released a survey showing that New York State Governor Mario Cuomo would lose his home state of New York, and in the 1996 Presidential election his final poll came within a tenth of a point of the actual results.

Zogby has also been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post and currently writes a regular political analysis column for Campaigns and Elections’ Politics Magazine, as well as a weekly column for Forbes.com and a weekly report on President Obama’s job performance in the U.S. News and World Report’s “Washington Whispers.”

He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Le Moyne College and a master’s in history from Syracuse University. He also received honorary doctorate degrees from the State University of New York and the Graduate School of Union College, as well as another honorary degree from the College of St. Rose. He taught history and political science for 24 years.

Zogby’s presentation, which is sponsored by the Business and Economics Department and the Mohawk Valley Center for Economic Education, will take place at 7 p.m. in Utica College’s Boehlert Hall. The speech is free for students and the public, and will be followed by questions and a book signing. Books will be available for purchase.
For further information regarding Zogby’s upcoming presentation, call the School of Business and Justice Studies at (315) 792-3055.
