Hitchcock Classic "Psycho" Kicks Off Flim Series
Film Still A Classic 50 Years Later

Utica, NY (01/15/2010) - The1960 psychological thriller Psycho directed by Alfred Hitchcock has become an American classic in the film world. Originally based on the book Psycho written by Robert Bloch, the book and movie are both based on the crimes of the Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein. Film@UC will air the suspenseful and nightmarish film on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. in Macfarlane Auditorium, DePerno Hall.Desperate for money to marry her lover, secretary Marion Crane steals $40,000 from her employer and flees for California. After a long drive she stops to sleep at the Bates motel where she meets mentally ill owner Norman Bates and his invalid mother. The film chronicles the encounter between the two and what occurs in the aftermath of Crane’s visit to the motel.
After initially receiving mixed reviews by film critics, Psycho has gone on to become one of Hitchcock’s best-known films. The film prospered from outstanding box office returns and was then re-reviewed with an overwhelmingly positive response. This 109-minute thriller received four Academy Awards and remains as influential in the movie world today as it was 50 years ago.
