Utica, NY (04/20/2010) - Nursing home administration - a rapidly growing sector of the health care industry – is in need of professionals who can manage facilities. Individuals who are interested in entering this field can now meet the educational requirements for nursing home administration licensure in New York State with a master’s degree in Health Care Administration from Utica College.

The New York State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators recognizes Utica’s MS in Health Care Administration program (both the campus and online programs) as a degree “in the field” when the curriculum includes the five courses below (or equivalent courses approved by Utica and the Board):

? HCA 621 Nursing Home Administration
? FIN 533 Healthcare Financial Management and Reimbursement
? HCA 527 Ethical and Legal Issues
? GNT 503 Perspectives in Gerontology
? HCA 615 Human Resources Management

Students will also receive a reduction in the experience requirement that the state requires for licensure, putting graduates of this program a few steps closer toward fulfilling New York’s requirements for nursing home administration certification.

"We're very pleased that the Board has recognized the excellence of Utica College's nursing home curriculum and that we can offer courses that bring our students closer to licensure in this increasingly vital area of health care administration," said Dana Hart, director of Utica's MS in Health Care Administration program.

More information about the Master of Science in Health Care Administration, including course descriptions, is available at www.onlineuticacollege.com.
