UC Welcomes New, Returning Students
Solade Rowe to Address Freshmen, Transfer Students

College expects 540 freshmen, 205 transfer students to arrive this weekend

Utica, NY (08/23/2011) - Utica College is set to welcome students back for the 2011 fall semester and the start of the 2011-2012 academic year.With the start of every new academic year, comes the UC tradition of convocation. This year’s convocation ceremony will take place Monday, Aug. 29 at 11 a.m.

The ceremony lasts approximately 50 minutes and serves as a formal introduction for new students and is the official opening of the 2011-2012 academic year.
The convocation address will be delivered by alumnus and current Utica College board of trustee member Solade E. Rowe. Rowe, a 1994 graduate of Utica College, is a partner at Wesley, Brown & Bartle Company, Inc., an executive search firm and is the founder of CareerAspiration, a professional career development company.
“The convocation ceremony is a chance for Utica College’s faculty and staff to welcome new students and wish them the best for years to come,” said Mark Kovacs, director of alumni and parent relations.
Along with current students, the college welcomes 540 freshmen as well as 205 transfer students.
Also, nearly 700 graduate students have enrolled in a variety of programs – both campus-based and online - for the upcoming academic year.
All students are welcome to attend the convocation ceremony, which is followed by a barbecue in the academic quad.
Classes begin Tuesday, Aug. 30.
