Utica, NY (02/06/2012) - More than 30 Utica College students and advisers will travel to Albany tomorrow (Feb. 7) to advocate for the protection of student aid.  Busses will depart at 7:30 a.m. from the circle in front of the Strebel Student Center and travel to the Capitol.

Students will meet with legislators to tell personal stories about how important financial aid has been to their education.

Specifically, members of the group will ask legislators to support programs such as the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP).  The governor’s proposed budget includes full funding for these programs, but that funding is not guaranteed until both the Senate and Assembly approve the budget.

UC has consistently been one of the most well represented colleges at the event, sending more than 50 students in years past.

Utica College has a strong tradition of helping students from all income levels achieve the goal of a earning a college degree, and the college relies on funding from these programs to continue this mission.  Currently, more than 90 percent of UC students benefit from financial aid, and most aid packages offset more than half of the cost of tuition.
