Utica, NY (03/01/2012) - Utica College is calling on the area’s most creative and scientifically minded youth to converge on the Utica College campus Saturday, March 24 to compete in the 34th annual regional science fair.  Local students in grades 7 through 12 from Oneida and Chenango Counties are invited to present their research and experiments in more than a dozen categories ranging from behavioral and computer science to microbiology and engineering.

Event information and entry forms are available on the college’s website via the school of arts and science page at http://utica.edu/academic/as, or by phone at (315) 792-3057.

Entrants will compete in either the senior level (grades 9-12) or junior level (grades 7-8) for cash prizes, tuition scholarships, and select special prizes awarded by organizations such as the American Meteorological Association, Intel, the U.S. Army and many others.

The senior level grand champion, in addition to winning a two-year, half-tuition scholarship to UC, is also eligible to compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh this May.  Last year’s senior grand champion, Rachel DiCioccio of Clinton, brought her project, “Heads or Tails? The Regeneration of Planeria” to the 2011 Intel fair in Los Angeles. There she competed with more than 1,500 finalists for more than $4 million in awards and prizes.

The projects on display in the Library Concourse will be judged in the morning, and parents, teachers and guests will be invited to view the displays after 12:30 p.m.
