Utica, NY (09/17/2015) - Theodore Orlin, Harold T. Clark Jr. Professor Emeritus of Human Rights Scholarship and Advocacy at Utica College, will be honored by President Bujar Nishani of the Republic of Albania. Actively involved in the Albanian human rights community for more than two decades, Orlin has worked tirelessly to advance the cause of human rights throughout the Balkan region.

A past president of the International Human Rights Education Consortium, Orlin is the founder of the Human Rights Advocacy Program (HRAP).

Active in the Albanian human rights community since 1992, one of Orlin’s lasting achievements is the creation and leadership of a human rights film festival in Albania. Entering its tenth year, the International Human Rights Film Festival Albania seeks to showcase international films that demonstrate the many dimensions of human rights in a global context. It includes both documentaries and fiction films that aim to raise awareness of human rights.

Orlin will be recognized during a ceremony at the presidential palace on Sept. 21. Orlin will be joined by friends and colleagues including John Johnsen, provost and vice president of academic affairs, and Dr. Thomas Crist, professor of physical therapy and anthropology.
